Help me Reach the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
I have always believed that when a group unites behind a common goal, nothing is impossible. In 2014, I wrote an open letter to my community asking for your support in proving this philosophy to be true. My request was simple: help me reach the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Together, we accomplished our mission.
While many reading this may have known me as Olu the Olympian from the day we first met, it was the overwhelming generosity and support of my community 5 years ago which brought this dream to life. Your support went far beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and paved the way for me to become one of the world's elite triple jumpers en route to the Rio Olympic Games.
Now, as we approach the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, I am humbly reaching out to my community once again to prove that together, we can accomplish anything. This time around, my goal is to make it onto the Olympic podium, and return home with a gold medal hanging around my neck.
With a season that lasts 9 months, and crosses the borders of 6 continents, competing as an elite track athlete is a career unlike other professional sports, and full corporate sponsorships are a rarity. As you can imagine, the associated costs for training, travel, health insurance, gear, and other incidentals quickly skyrocket. The monetary goal takes all of these expenses into account, and reflects my budget for the next year, leading right up to the start of the Tokyo Olympics on July 24, 2020.
The goal is lofty, but so was the idea reaching my first Olympics over 4 years ago as an underdog. Anything you can give helps tremendously. Please join forces with me once again to prove that nothing is impossible.
SUPPORT THE cause
I learned the truth to this statement firsthand en route to my first Olympic Games. Since then, I’ve aligned my athletic pursuits with a purpose greater than myself alone. The Daily Athlete is an extension of this mission; by supporting my journey to Tokyo, you’ll also be supporting the global athlete community at large.
Track & Field is unlike any other professional sport. Even at the global elite level, full sponsorships are a rarity. Athletes must frequently cover training, rehabilitation, health insurance, gear, and many other expenses completely out of pocket. As you might imagine, these costs skyrocket quickly. Below is a percentage breakdown of where your donation will go.
Whether or not you are capable of giving, I want to personally thank you for visiting this page. Your support, in all forms it is given, is greatly appreciated.
